In 2007, and against stiff national opposition, Leeds was successful in bidding for LEGI (Local Enterprise Growth Initiative) funding to further the economic development of the city's most deprived areas. A commitment of £20.6m over 4 years (2007-2011) has been made by government. The programme is called Sharing the Success.
Leeds Ahead played a key part in putting the bid together and co-presented the bid to the national panel alongside Leeds City Council.
Overall objectives of the LEGI funding
The key component of the Sharing the Success Programme is the creation of three self-sustaining enterprise Catalyst Centres in the most deprived areas of Leeds.
